Uniform & Equipment

We have worked hard to ensure that standards in this area remain high and indeed, the vast majority of our students look smart all of the time.   From listening to the views of the students and honouring how they voted, we have kept a uniform that is fairly informal but as a result it is important that what we do specify is adhered to.

  1. House polo shirts – House polos have the school badge on the chest and a coloured piping around the collar.  They are used to identify the House your child is a member of. As a reminder, the house colours are as follows:-
    Warrior – Blue
    Spinnaker – Purple
    Victory – Silver
    Mary Rose – Green

For Year 11 – A black & white polo shirt with a House coloured badge must be worn.

  2. Skirts – If your child chooses to wear a skirt then the skirt must be the ALNS logo skirt which should be knee-length.  No other skirt is allowed, including for Year 11.

There are a number of other expectations we would like to draw to your attention at this time in order that your child has as smooth a start as possible to next year.

  1. Tight trousers, jeans or leggings are NOT acceptable uniform
Jeans, leggings and skin-tight trousers are not allowed. If they “look like jeans”, we will consider them to be jeans.   ALNS school trousers should be black tailored, full length trousers which are loose fitting.  Socks (plain black or white) should be long enough so that there is no gap between them and trousers.

  2. Piercings
We would also like to remind you that there should be no piercings other than 1 pair of earrings (or a single one) in the earlobes only, studs or hoops of no more than 1cm diameter.  Students will be expected to remove all other piercings during the school day.  We will not be permitting students to cover inappropriate facial piercings with tape, the piercings must be removed.

  3. Make-up & nail varnish (including acrylic nails)
Nail Varnish is not allowed, other than for Year 11, and nails must be short in length as this is a Health and Safety requirement for some subjects. Acrylic nails, BIAB or fake nails are not allowed, other than in Year 11, where they must be short and of a natural cover.

  4. School Shoes
We would also draw your attention to the rule on shoes.School shoes should be 100% black including the edges of soles and any laces etc. Any brand logo must also be completely black and discreet. Shoes must be completely polishable and made entirely of a material that can be polished (for example, leather)
