About our Careers Programme

Here at Admiral Lord Nelson School (ALNS), we are very proud of our Careers and Education provision. ALNS students are encouraged early in the five-year journey to look at their skills, interests, and qualities to plan early and broadly for their future endeavours.

We aim to equip our students with knowledge, skills and experiences they need to take their best next steps by providing access to impartial careers guidance throughout their time at ALNS.

Our careers programme is underpinned by the DfE Careers Guidance 2025, the CDI Framework for Careers, Employability and Enterprise Education (2021) and is quality-assured through the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks standard. Tailored provision is made for students identified as most at risk of becoming NEET, Children Looked After, students receiving Pupil Premium, and students identified as having special educational needs.

Activities are designed to help students develop the awareness of self and personal skills and qualities (“Know Myself”), the knowledge of a wide variety of Post-16 and post-18 pathways and careers (“See the Path”) and the skills required to make effective transitions into Post-16 education and/or employment (“Ready to Go”).

The content of the Programme will be delivered via Personal Development Days, assemblies, timetabled careers lessons, 1:1 sessions, and a wide variety of careers education events which include employer engagement, off-site visits, workshops, talks, etc.

All students have an opportunity to request a 1:1 meeting with a qualified Careers Adviser through the Information Centre staff. All Year 11s will be offered a 1:1 appointment as standard.

The impact and success of the careers programme is evaluated annually in a variety of ways; stakeholder feedback, parent voice, Future Skills questionnaire (annual, all students), compass and assessment (termly).

Our Careers Lead, Miss Riches is always happy to support with any queries or guidance :
